Christians who converted: Did you have gross friends before finding a church family?

I tend to think that if a church doesn't have a few 'gross' people, who make you feel a bit uncomfortable, then it isn't really a church. A church should be open and welcoming to all, and accepting of all, so it should have people from all walks of life, with all sorts of personalities and behaviours, all sorts of crosses to bear. Otherwise, it isn't a gathering of the body, it's a social gathering to meet people like yourself. Look around your church: do you think anyone there slept rough last night, anyone there struggles with an addiction, anyone there would be followed by a security guard if they went into a 'nice' shop, anyone there you would keep your children away from, anyone there left school illiterate? We are one body in the one Lord.
